Roy Orbison, "Running Scared," synopsis

Orbison's tune was released in June 1961, a bit over a year before Dylan started "Hard Rain." "Running Scared" made a big impression on Dylan, as he notes in Chronicles, Volume 1. Though this operatic pop is a generic world away from "Hard Rain," Dylan matches Orbison's ascent step for step. Listen while following figure 9.4 on p. 246.
