Dylan borrowed the first chord of his guitar part directly from Martin Carthy (audio ex. 6.4), but rather than resounding in place, as it does in Carthy's arrangement, Dylan's chord moves, pulling toward resolution, just as the singer directs his thoughts to the frozen north in longing and regret.
